There's a little more sadness in the world today.
Earlier this month, I received an email from a friend at work which I thought warranted being forwarded to my friends (who I hoped would forward it on as well). My friend Kat even blogged about it.
The kindergarten teacher of a little girl with cancer was trying to find a way to celebrate the girl's birthday as well as bring some hope and joy into her life. She sent out an email and asked friends to send birthday cards and a penny to the little girl who ended up receiving over 60,000 cards and pennies from people all over the world.
Sadly, the little girl, Alyssa Bruno died today, a little girl who would have been starting first grade next month.
I know there is so much unhappiness and cruelty in the world, but there is nothing more beautiful than the hope and promise of life reflected in the face of a young child. And there is almost nothing worse than when that young life is snuffed out.
So say a little prayer and hug your kids a little tighter.
