Hi Julie, I thought I'd check on you even if I can't manage to get a new post done. Maybe I'll send you an email. As usual, you've blogged about some of the same things I've been thinking about. ..Peter, Paul, and Mary...Julie and Julia. I haven't bought Mastering the Art of French Cooking yet either. Bf and I went to see this movie, too. I put the cookbook high on my list of birthday wishlist items. I believe it might be coming my way. I thought it was a delightful movie and I hope that Meryl Streep gets an Oscar for her delightful portrayal of Julia Child. It has inspired me to want to cook. I'll never think about onions in the same light ever again without thinking of Meryl Streep as Julia chopping a table filled with them.

It was a weird day, wasn't it? I've gotten better as I've gotten older at separating artist-performers from their real lives. Michael Jackson was a freak, but he was an incredible talent. Mozart was a freak too, but I still enjoy his music too.

Thanks, Julie. It's good for me to remember that as a spoiled American who often complains that our government has largely been controlled by ignorant, narrow-minded, old men, that I have no fear whatsoever of voicing that opinion to anyone anywhere I want. I'm so used to freedom that it's awesome (as in inspiring awe) to see others having to fight so hard for it.

DN2 is rolling her eyes at you? Oh No! I thought she'd never outgrow the "Mommy, you're perfect" stage. Sigh. They do grow up, don't they. Mindless entertainment is fine. My whole house laughs at my obsession with Twilight. Teehee (I'm listening to it on iTunes right now).

Double OMG! Guess what we spent half of our day doing today...driving Paige to the far side of Bakersfield to a huge concert at noon today and then picking her up again at ten this evening. That was close to four hours of driving back and forth twice in one day. Why?? Because I wasn't that excited about the concert to begin with, but I certainly wasn't going to allow her to drive with her friends there, unlike the rest of her friends' parents. I wasn't good enough to go myself, but at least when we picked her up tonight we could smell that the beer and smoke smells weren't actually from her!...and yes, I heard "mother f*$#er at least three times from the stage in just the time that we waited for her to get to the car...yeah, I'm thinking that my mom would have fainted before she'd have allowed me to go to something like that...that is...after she finished crying.

I can't believe that your concert had any bands worth hearing because Paige assured me that the very best bands in the country were at that concert (LOL) Actually, she said she didn't like it that much and had a headache...just what I was hoping for:)
